Wesley's foster care program is designed to support children and young people. Throughout these placements we provide ongoing support to young people and their caregivers.
Who does the program support?
Wesley's foster care program supports: > Children and young people up until the age of 17 who are either on current protective orders with the Department of Human Services or involved with us in a voluntary capacity > Young people who through no fault of their own cannot reside within the family home and require alternate placement.
How does the program work?
Wesley's foster care program is a family setting which works alongside the support of a qualified youth worker. In most cases all young people referred to Wesley are subject to a current protective order; however we have capacity to hold two voluntary beds for community referrals.
Wesley will receive a referral from the Department of Human Services for a young person requiring placement in foster care. This referral is then assessed and, if appropriate, Wesley will match the young person to a foster family based on behaviour, where they live and physical and mental health considerations.
Young people can be placed in long term, short term or in crisis accommodation. Wesley has 37 foster homes, which can place young people with a wide range of needs. A team consisting of the foster carer, Wesley case workers and DHS case workers meet on a regular basis to ensure that the young person is receiving the support that they need.
