Highlights of 2011

 

Children Youth and Family Services
Successful overnight camps for young people in Residential Care were held at Merricks Camp. Successful tender, in partnership with Red Cross, for eight houses as part of the Community Detention program for asylum seekers previously living in detention centre’s around Melbourne.

Disability Services
Connecting Communities Eastern moved from Mt Evelyn to Croydon to increase social and community participation for service users.

The ‘Changing Days Project’, bringing all service providers and programs together to create one plan for each individual, was extended in the southern region due to ongoing success.  

Social Enterprises
Expansion of The Last Cuppa saw catering services established at a new and fully equipped commercial kitchen at 660 Elizabeth St Melbourne.

The Last Cuppa, in partnership with Best Community Development and BESTCDG, received additional funding from the Australian Government through the Innovation Fund for expansion activities, focusing on employment outcomes.

Crisis
Wesley Footscray Outreach secured $10,000 worth of funding to run the Back to School assistance program, assisting disadvantaged young people in the Maribyrnong area.

Additional funding for Lifeline was secured to assist with training more volunteer telephone counsellors, as a result of natural disasters including the Victorian floods.

Aged Care and Support
The Melba program, based in Healesville, merged with Wesley in January and is now known as Wesley Melba. This allows Wesley to assist more people in the eastern region of Melbourne.

Homelessness
Department of Human Services acknowledged Wesley Harrison Information Support Housing Program (WHISH) as a leader in the field of tenancy. ‘Opening Doors’ assisted more than 4,000 people with innovative services, such as the installation of new computers for service user access.

Wesley Employment Services
Wesley Employment Services formed a partnership with UK based job placement agency BESTCDG, which will improve the outcomes for our job seekers in our employment programs.
