Wesley recognises that most people want to live in their own homes for as long as possible, they just need a little support and companionship from a reliable and friendly person.
 


Wesley Homeshare matches older householders and householders with disabilities with people of integrity to provide companionship and help around the home in return for free accommodation.

Who does the program support?

• Older people who want to remain independent and live in their own home for as long as possible and are interested to share with a mature, responsible younger person

• Householders with a disability wanting to live in their own home and are interested in sharing, who need some practical help, company and night-time security

• People who are interested in sharing with an older person or someone with a disability and are able to provide assistance around the home, regular and reliable times at home and contribute to household expenses

How does the program work?

At face value it is an exchange of services: a room for some support. But it is so much more than that. The Wesley Homeshare model allows older people to live independent, dignified lives within their homes and communities. It also provides choice and breaks down cultural and generational barriers – many successful matches have involved mature, young international students.

Householders (people who live in their own homes) and Homesharers (people who provide support to the home owners) complete detailed application forms. Homeshare Coordinators interview all applicants carefully; assess needs and what both parties bring to the match. Introductions, follow up meetings and trials are arranged.

Homeshare Coordinators draw up and negotiate agreements detailing the arrangements for living together including specific tasks, sharing or managing living costs. Every agreement will be different and designed to suit the circumstances of the match.

Homeshare Coordinators provide ongoing contact and support to both parties throughout the match.
